Novo Nordisk has received a prize for having issued the best integrated environmental and social report in Europe. The event is organized by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, and Novo Nordisk was awarded for its 1999 environmental and social report, 'Values in Action'.

The event was held in Brussels, where Jean-Francois Verstrynge, Deputy Director-General of the Environment Directorate-General of the European Commission, on behalf of the organizing committee gave the prestigious award to four companies who in each their category have prepared excellent reports.

”We are very proud to have won this particular prize for best Sustainability report, because social and environmental responsibility is an integral part of how we operate our business,” says Lise Kingo, Senior Vice President, Stakeholder Relations, and responsible for this values’ reporting since the company’s first environmental report came out in 1994.

”Sustainability is a way of thinking that may be difficult to execute in practice for a multinational company like ours. Therefore we have invested heavily over the past decade in making social and environmental responsibility part of our day-to-day work. Winning this award today is indeed a recognition to all the employees who are doing a great job on this work,” says Lise Kingo.

Sustainable development is the key theme of the Novo Nordisk Environmental and Social Report 2000, entitled 'Values in a Global Context', which has just been released. It also covers new issues on the agenda, such as the right to health, bioethics, genetic engineering and methods to measure on the 'triple bottom line' how the company affects the society of which it forms part.
