Ethibel 
Since 1995, Novo Nordisk has been included in Ethibel’s Ethical Investment Register. “Values are expressed in all [Novo Nordisk’s] actions. The strategic framework of the company’s Triple Bottom Line rests on three core elements: corporate governance structure, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement.” (January 2003).

Innovest Strategic Value Advisors
“Novo Nordisk’s sustainability strategy is one of the best in its sector. The company has identified areas of concerns relevant to its business and stakeholders, and has developed targets and indicators as a means of assessing its performance.” (June 2002).

Storebrand Invest 
Storebrand's Socially Responsible Research unit rated Novo Nordisk industry leader among 52 pharmaceutical companies. Novo Nordisk received the highest score on Storebrand’s social index, “beating its sector colleagues by a wide margin” and ranked second place in the environmental index. (May, 2002).

In July 2003, Storebrand SRI honoured Novo Nordisk with a 'butterfly' for best in class performance within the area of environmental and social responsibility.

Sarasin
“Novo Nordisk clearly ranks among leaders in working to formulate strategy and establish systems for dealing with environmental and social concerns, indeed to integrate Triple Bottom Line thinking into company practice. An effort to incorporate suppliers in achievement of goals is also in advance of industry averages. Product lifecycle evaluation and community dialogue in areas of concern such as genetic engineering and animal testing constitute other strong points.” (May, 2002).

“Novo Nordisk seeks to enhance its Triple Bottom Line by embracing sustainability as an integral component of business strategy. The company is active in pursuing constructive dialogues with various stakeholders and is not averse to discussing controversial ethical topics such as animal testing, genetic engineering or patents. Its latest sustainability report – ‘Reporting on the Triple Bottom Line 2001 – dealing with dilemmas’, discusses a variety of conflicts, which pharmaceutical companies are currently facing.” (April, 2002).

Oekom
Novo Nordisk was given the highest corporate socially responsibility rating among the world's largest pharmaceutical companies by Oekom Research in Germany.  "There is a yawning gap between the leading companies and those at the tail end. The leaders in the pharmaceutical industry are making a serious attempt to reconcile economic expectations with social and environmental responsibility. Whereas pharmaceutical companies have hitherto been excluded from many ethical funds, the change in the strategic focus of some companies could now make them a promising target for investment." (March, 2002).

Novo Nordisk has been selected as one of the Sustainable Large Caps stocks that The Progressive Investor recommends for investors. Indices

Novo Nordisk has been selected as an index component of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Indexes (DJSI World) and Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Indexes (DJSI STOXX).  In the DJSI World, Novo Nordisk tops the pharmaceuticals industry group.

FTSE4Good Index
Novo Nordisk is also included in the FTSE4Good index, which is an index series for socially responsible investment designed by FTSE.

E. Capital Partners' Ethical Index Global
Since December 2002, Novo Nordisk has been included in Ethical Index Global, a socially responsible bencmark, created and maintained by E. Capital Partners.

Nordic Sustainability Index 
Novo Nordisk is one of the 40 components in the Nordic Sustainability Index, which was launched in May 2003. The index represents the largest screening of Nordic companies with regard to sustainability and corporate governance.

Folksam Climate Index
In April 2003, Novo Nordisk was given four out of five stars in the Folksam Climate Index . The Index is an annual investigation of companies' climate impact, conducted by the Swedich insurance company Folksam.
